Heather was sweet enough to answer some questions for me so I could put this post together to tell you a little about her, her labor bags and what she offers!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.
My name is Heather and I own Simply Delivered Labor Bags! We create prepacked hospital bags for labor and delivery. We prefer the term “labor bag” because it’s an all inclusive bag filled with products for labor and delivery – not just to the hospital. It’s designed for birthing centers, at home births, and hospital deliveries. We pride ourselves on being both an environmentally conscious and an American based company, and you’ll find that our products will testify to this. Our main objective is simply to facilitate an easier transition from pregnancy to holding that precious newborn while alleviating some of mom-to-be’s stress and anxiety.
How long have you been in business/serving women in Tampa and surrounding areas?
We’re actually based out of Lakeland, but we have been working closely with birthing professionals and moms in Tampa, Tampa Bay, and St. Pete for about a year now! The business connections and customers that have become friends are second to none in the Tampa Bay Area!
How did you get started in labor bags/What made you want to start this type of business?
It was born (pun intended) as a direct result of my first delivery failing to go according to plan (who can relate?!) I was induced more than three weeks early due to severe pre eclampsia, but thought I had all the time in the world left to pack my bag. It turns out I didn’t, and while I was terrified and admitted to the hospital, my husband had to leave me to go all the way home and grab necessities! It was mental anguish, physical pain, and increased my already elevated anxiety tenfold. Several hours later, he still wasn’t back, and literally in the middle of laboring I had a fleeting thought that it would’ve been nice to just pay someone to pack my bag for me haha! When I became pregnant again, I remembered that thought, and Simply Delivered was created!
How did you come up with your business name?
Oh, this is a great question! A lot of people miss this one – it’s actually a pun! Simply Delivered is referring not only to easing the delivery of your baby, but also simply delivering the bag itself to your doorstep since we offer nation-wide shipping.
What is a labor bag/What does one include?
A labor bag is commonly referred to as a “hospital bag.” It’s a prepacked bag with everything you need for labor, delivery, and even postpartum care. It’s a collection of 30 items (including a list of things we can’t provide for you – clothes, phone charger, etc). The items themselves range from things like essential oils that help during labor, a water bottle, chapstick, socks, hand sanitizer, toiletries, nursing necessities, to aftercare products like postpartum pads that stay in place, peri-bottle, and our own made-in-house Simply Delivered Soothing Pads, just to name a handful! What can mamas expect to pay for a labor bag?
The current going rate for a Standard Edition Labor Bag is $230, before shipping. We do offer local pick up and can meet anywhere in the Tampa area or anywhere in Polk County. Individually, the products combined retail for well over $300.The Deluxe version, which includes everything the standard does but with extra items focusing on revitalizing and rejuvenating mom, is available for $375 through us and retails for a little under $500.

When do you recommend mamas contact you/buy a bag?/How long does it take to receive their bag?
Most moms typically buy their bag well into the second trimester, between 20 weeks and 28 weeks. Some moms wait until the peak of the nesting stage, but I don’t recommend that – based on experience! I waited until then to start to pack mine, and then my baby was much earlier than anticipated and my bag wasn’t ready haha!
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about buying a labor bag?
I would say that makes total sense! It might seem like a luxury purchase, but my heart behind it is simple: the goal is to help ease the anxiety many mothers feel while actively in labor or driving to the hospital. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have the what if’s floating around in your head – what if I forgot something? What if the hospital doesn’t have something I need? Did I pack my toothbrush? While all these are valid thoughts in such a time, there are a myriad of other things in that same time that are much more worthy of your time and energy. Thoughts like: I’ve got this, my body was made for this. I’m feeling a little anxious; I really should focus on my breathwork. Customers have told us the labor bag is worth it for the peace of mind it brings alone, and that is what we love to hear!
What do you find are the biggest obstacles/mistakes parents make when trying to pack their own labor bag?
Another great question! The biggest mistake people make is forgetting something! Most of the time, moms forget small things and these are all included in the bag! These small items are available in the hospital gift shop for an insane amount of money. On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have the over-packers (you know who you are!). With every bag, we also include a complimentary list of other things we can’t provide to ensure your bag is truly packed with the necessities and is ready to go!
What do you want mamas to know about your labor bags?
The bags themselves are a blessing, but not as much as the relief of knowing that it’s one more thing crossed off the to-do list. As someone who has experienced a debilitating amount of anxiety, I truly stand by the mission of easing anyone else’s.
What are some other thoughts you’d like mamas to know?
A lot of people think these bags are reserved for moms-to-be to buy. The truth is that the majority of our sales come from grandma-to-be and aunt-to-be. Getting one for the pregnant mama in your life could change her entire delivery!
