Woot! Woot! Have been wanting to get to this post all day, but we thought we were having probs with our internet. Then after going to use the free wi-fi at McD’s and it not working there either, found out it’s my laptop. So I got to thinking & thought ‘well I can get internet on my phone, so why not sign in on my phone & post it from there?’ Thank goodness for technology, for not procrastinating, actually being ahead of the game & having this post all prepared, saved & ready to go! So, as I sit in car rider line to pick up my boys from school I bring you the new Featured Guest! Enjoy & Happy September!
Please welcome my September Featured Guest… Diane of Something Diane Made!
Diane writes: I am a Northern living in the South. How did that happen? Well, I am 25 years old and have been married to the love of my life for 3 years. We met during our college years through close friends, dated for 3 years, graduated College and got married a week later. We then moved South so my husband could get his master’s degree, and now we both have “grown up” jobs in a brand new city and are loving life!
Diane’s Business Journey…
My business “Something Diane Made” is the result of a lot of encouragement from my husband, family and friends. It is mostly a cute, cozy shop of crocheted items from hats, to slippers, scarves and baby cocoons. But also extends to sewing items and will probably include other “items diane made” soon. I love mixed media and just taking an idea and running with it. All items can be custom made to fit the customer’s needs/wants and I think that makes the items extra special. I started my business about a year ago (August 2010) and have been SO blessed in this year. I can hardly believe the amazing people I have met through the homemade blogging/internet world as well as the great customers I have had. It is truly amazing!
Q&A with Diane:
What inspires you and your work?
I get my inspiration from all sorts of places. I can be walking in the mall or in the park or just hear someone say something that sparks an idea. It is probably what I love most about the homemade world- there is nothing that is “off-limits” so to speak. If you have an idea, and go with it- there will be people rallying around you supporting it. I love the outdoors and probably get most of my ideas from there.
Tell us about your favorite item you make/sell.
Eeeks, I have to pick ONE item! Honestly I love the items I sell I have 1 (or 10) of each of them myself that I use. I wouldn’t make things that I didn’t love or think were useful/practical but cute items. As you can tell by my recent influx of clutches in the shop, I am totally in love with these. I use mine every single day and pretty much get a compliment on it every day (don’t you love that??)! They are SO practical and cute. A little bigger than “normal” clutches because this girl likes her essentials. 🙂
What do you do when you aren’t crocheting?
When I am not crocheting… I am out running with the hubby, or cooking up a great meal. I really enjoy cooking – especially like appetizer/cocktail type parties where I get to make lots of really great finger foods. I also love the beach and water sports. I am a rather active person so I like to be up and moving around when I am not crocheting!
And just for fun…
What did you want to be when you were 12 years old (did you always want to be doing what you are now, or something different)?
I wanted to be a Hair Stylist. Which is totally different from the Math degree and Engineering job that I have now. I thought it would be so awesome to do people’s hair every day and always have great hair myself. I still wish I had the latter item. 🙂
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would want to be able to teleport (not sure on the spelling of that) but be able to be in one place and a second later in another. My whole family (as well as my husband’s) lives in Michigan so there are so many times I wish I could be there for this occasion or that, or just for a girl’s night out with my sisters. So to be there instantly would be awesome!
What’s something you want to do before you die?
I want to go to Paris before I die. I love art and would love to experience the Louvre, and all that Paris has to offer. But it is a hard choice because there are so many cool places around the world that I would love to add to my Bucket List as well.
And now for some pics of my AWESOME clutch from Diane! It took me FOREVER to decide which one I wanted because there were SO many cute patterns and I just couldn’t decide (which is no surprise to those of you who know me and know that I can NEVER make a decision for my life :))! I LOVE my clutch. It is SO roomy and I am always getting compliments on it!
I decided on this one… loved the yellow/turquoise/brown combo and the bright little yellow button accent!
There is seriously so much room in this clutch. I love that it isn’t stiff and at the same time doesn’t bulge with as much stuff as I have in it either.
This is what’s in my clutch right now, and I could even fit more!
