Erika contacted me looking for Wesley Chapel newborn portraits the beginning of December. Her new little one, Benicio Antonio, was already a couple weeks old. Luckily I had some availability and was able to schedule him pretty quickly (newborn baby sessions are best within the first 2 weeks!). Erika and Alex chose to have their newborn session at the KFP studio. Little Benicio was wide awake at first, but finally gave in to his sleepiness and we were able to get all of the posed images pretty easily. Benicio is currently 3 months old and growing fast! I hope I get to see him again soon!
You cannot buy happiness,
happiness is born.
Location of birth: St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital
When did you go into labor: I was induced on November 16, 2021 Date of birth: November 16, 2021
Time of birth: 1:18 PM Baby’s Weight: 8 lbs 3 oz Baby’s Length: 21 inches
Who all was at the hospital: Alex and my mom were both in the delivery room. Alex was right beside me throughout the labor and delivery. He even cut the cord! Originally my mom was only going to wait in the main lobby of the hospital to make sure Benicio and I were ok after he was born (even though I was becoming a mom, my mom is still my mommy and wanted to ensure I was safe and well after delivery). But due to COVID, she was not permitted to wait in the main lobby, but she was permitted to be my second support person during my labor. So although not part of the original plan, she was in the room and beside us, and was the first person to see and hold our little boy. It was a special moment to share with her.
Why did you chose to do the session at KFP studio: Our home felt pretty chaotic to do the photoshoot because we have 3 dogs, all of which are barkers. We wanted to ensure that we had a proper space and little distractions, so it just made the best sense to do the photoshoot in studio.
What was your favorite part about our session together? Our favorite part was the variety of poses you put Benicio in to ensure we had many choices. We really appreciate the care, tenderness and above all patience you had to get him in those poses and outfits to have a successful session.
How did you prepare the baby for our photo shoot? We made sure to follow your instructions closely, especially clothing him initially in something easy to remove and of course, a nice full feeding right before we started the session to get him in a food coma.
How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out? We were nervous like most people I’m sure. The biggest worry was what if he doesn’t want to sleep throughout the session and becomes fussy? Thankfully, after the first few poses and shots, he passed out and stayed sleepy throughout the rest of the session. And even though he had a small bathroom accident (let’s be honest he peed a lot!), you took it in stride and that made us feel better.
What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? I would say schedule early if you can. I had no idea I could and especially since our little guy was hospitalized 5 days after he was born, we thought our chance to do a newborn photoshoot was lost. But thankfully, you were able to get us in quickly. I know that other photographers might not be so accommodating. But once you get to the photoshoot, RELAX. I was so stressed and nervous and there was no reason to be. You made it seem so effortless. These are precious memories and just live in that moment, because as cliche as it is, it really does go fast.
